In an amazing back and forth fight, Brock Lesnar defeated Shane Carwin via submission at 2:19 of the second round. Lesnar was able to bounce back from a first round beating and sink an arm-triangle choke onto Carwin, forcing him to tap halfway through the second round.
As the first round began, Lesnar and Carwin briefly traded punches with Lesnar taking a short blow to the chin. Sensing the danger in Carwin’s hands, Lesnar charged forward and shot in for a takedown. Carwin was able to shrug off the takedown attempt by tossing Lesnar to the side, with both fighters falling to the canvas and immediately jumping back to their feet. Lesnar pushed toward Carwin and caught a stiff uppercut to the chin, causing him to fall back into the fence. Carwin followed with a barrage of punches that brought Lesnar to his knees and then to the ground.
Once Lesnar was on the mat Carwin began to rain down strikes. Lesnar did little to defend himself other than cover up, and it appeared as if the fight would soon be stopped. Luckily for Lesnar, Carwin’s strikes began to slow as he became visibly tired. Lesnar scrambled back to his feet and nearly took Carwin down at the end of round one.
As round two started, Carwin appeared extremely lethargic and tired while Lesnar looked as fresh as he was at the beginning of the fight. After briefly exchanging punches with his opponent, Lesnar shot in and took the exhausted Carwin to the ground. From this position, Lesnar quickly moved to the mount and then to side control where he locked up an extremely tight arm-triangle choke. Within seconds, Carwin was forced to tap allowing Lesnar to retain his title belt.
Brock Lesnar retains the UFC heavyweight title and improves to 5-1 while Shane Carwin falls to 12-1.
