Team St-Pierre moves to 3-0

In what was an exciting up and down fight, Kyle Watson defeated Andy Main by rear naked choke to move Team St-Pierre to a 3-0 lead against Team Koscheck in the quarterfinals of The Ultimate Fighter.

St-Pierre’s team chose this fight because they believed that Watson had more experience and was the more technically sound fighter. Luckily, their assessment proved to be correct, and although it took Watson some time to find his groove, he successfully defeated Main in a decisive fashion.

Round one of the fight began with Main blasting out of his corner and the two fighters exchanging punches, both taking hits from each other. Main drove in and pressed Watson up against the cage and even scored a takedown. Watson was able to get back to his feet and the two exchanged shots again. Near the middle of the round, Watson landed his own takedown and spent the remainder of the time raining down punches on Main and holding his position.

The second round began the same way, with both fighters exchanging again. This time, Watson worked for his takedown much earlier and landed it after the one minute mark. On the ground, Watson moved around to Main’s back and started working for a choke. He sunk in a rear naked choke and Main was forced to tap out.

This fight marked the third straight bout in which Team St-Pierre won a victory over Team Koscheck. Immediately following the fight, Josh Koscheck was visibly upset, nearly breaking a chair on the floor and storming off before his fighter was even out of the octagon. Koscheck claimed that Main did not follow the game plan they developed. Main later admitted that this was true. With three consecutive losses, Team Koscheck is forced to go back to the drawing board and figure out a way to turn the tide, especially if they want to prevent a Team St-Pierre sweep.
